The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is a constitutional body that conducts various examinations for recruitment to top government services, including the Civil Services Exam (IAS, IPS, IFS, etc.).
The exam is conducted in three stages:
Prelims – Objective type screening test
Mains – Descriptive written exam
Interview (Personality Test) – Final selection stage
Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen (for IAS & IPS).
Age Limit: 21 to 32 years (as of 1st August of the exam year).
OBC: +3 years
SC/ST: +5 years
PwD: +10 years
Educational Qualification: Graduate degree in any discipline.
General: 6 attempts
OBC: 9 attempts
SC/ST: Unlimited attempts (till upper age limit)
PwD: 9 attempts (General/OBC), Unlimited for SC/ST
The notification is usually released in February, and the Prelims exam is held in May/June each year.
Paper 1 (General Studies): 200 marks
Paper 2 (CSAT): 200 marks (qualifying with 33% marks)
Both papers are objective type and conducted on the same day.
The Mains exam has 9 descriptive papers, including:

Compulsory language papers (Qualifying)
Start with NCERTs (Class 6–12).
Read The Hindu/Indian Express for current affairs.
Follow UPSC syllabus closely and make notes.
Practice previous year question papers.
Take mock tests regularly.

Mains Written Exam (1750 marks)
Interview/Personality Test (275 marks)

The Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) conducts state-level examinations to recruit candidates for various administrative positions like Deputy Collector, DSP, Tehsildar, and other state services.
The exam is held in three stages, similar to UPSC:
Prelims – Objective type screening test
Mains – Descriptive written examination
Interview – Final personality assessment
Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen.
Age Limit:
For uniformed posts (DSP, etc.): 21 to 33 years
Other posts: 21 to 40 years
Age relaxations for reserved categories as per state rules.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university.
The Prelims consist of two objective papers:
General Studies (Paper 1): 200 marks
General Aptitude Test (Paper 2): 200 marks
Both papers are qualifying for Mains selection.
The MPPSC State Services Exam notification is usually released between December and January, with the Prelims exam held around April–May.
